I chose UOW based on my previous experience and the relationships at UOW have with industry in general my name is Holly Fletcher and I'm studying a PhD at UOW and I'm researching interventions that would improve health outcomes in a in mine workers I think their delivery of the program the resources that you have access to the staff have been incredibly supportive my career goal is to take my knowledge and apply it in a corporate context if I work for a company and I can influence the leadership team to make decisions that ultimately improve those workers outcomes and I will feel like I've achieved something

My name is Jan Hinds I'm an occupational hygienist I've completed my PhD in emissions based maintenance of diesel engines my work was to find a way to improve diesel engines so that there's less admitted to the workers and less for them to actually be breathing in so essentially leaving work in a healthy healthier way than they otherwise may the University of Wollongong has been instrumental in supporting my success to finish my PhD they're giving you opportunities to do it in a safe environment you don't leave UIW and leave behind the people that you've worked with they do continue to go on your life journey as well

one of the really rewarding things that you get as being a lecturer is watching the students develop so you see them starting off not really even understanding the words that you're using and then after a couple of years they not only can use the words they can apply them in ways to make people safe I'm Leanne Treadwell I work in the OHS academic program and I'm the rest discipline lead when I see a student succeed it's the best feeling when you see them being promoted through the ranks to becoming not just the safety officer but to actually be the safety manager of a major organization within a couple of years you know that you've been teaching them the right skills not just the theory but also the practical skills to be able to apply that theory and make a difference we've had a number of students go out into industry and I've talked to my colleagues in industry and they only want your aw students

Vinod cupola sunny and I'm the academic program director for the OHS program here at University of Colombo when a student comes to us be they domestic or international students the first thing they're exposed to is the network of students were already working in the industry this network provides them with contact with industry directly we teach our students how to take the theory they've learned how to apply it and to see the results and come on and we've had feedback from employers who consistently told us that your WHS graduates are one of the bests we don't have to do much with them they just hit the ground
